Blind Dating

final dating 12For many, the term “blind date” can make one feel anxious, scared or even put-off. Just watching the show Blind Date can make someone cringe at the thought of going on one. The show portrayed daters as drunken, lust-driven buffoons looking for quick hook-ups and cheap laughs. Blind dating has never been easy, but for the adventurous, blind dating can be a very fun and attractive alternative to traditional dating.

Avoid the Blind in Blind

First off, there are several rules to blind dating in order to make the experience as positive as it can be. One: try not to make the date completely blind. That is, see if you can bring a friend. That way you’ll alleviate the anxiety and make the date more friendly, rather than romantic. Many people go into blind dates fearing something may go horribly wrong or that the other dater is expecting more than just a date. Two: try talking on the phone ahead of time. Exchange emails, texts, etc. to try and get to know them before you meet in person. This will help both parties weed out any personality clashes.

Ask a Friend

If a friend helped set up the date, try to get personal references to get a better understanding of the person. No one wants to date a person who is aggressive, angry or instable (financial or otherwise). It’s important to try to get an understanding of their character before you ever commit to meet the other person on a date. All-in-all, blind dating can be very fun and exciting as long as you follow two basic rules. One, avoid the blind in blind. And two, ask a friend. If both of these rules are followed then that disastrous blind date everyone sees in the movies can be avoided like the plague.
