This book is a tribute to the author's father, and for all those living with or have lived with mentally ill family members. At age 11, the author went through the process of watching her mother become a paranoid schizophrenic. She witnessed her mother change from a beautiful, loving person to one she barely recognized. In addition, the author describes her father's ultimate commitment to his wife, who remained ill for over 40 years.

The stories describe living with schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder.
Other families’ stories of their loved one with different types of brain disorders provide a full menu of all the heart-rending experiences that silent heroes must face every single day.

The stories describe living with schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder.
Many, if not most, families have their own story about mental illness, addictions, or violence. Research depicts that at least 50% of people with substance abuse and addictions have a mental disorder also. The stories presented in this book are small samples of similar tales that most anyone could tell about their family. But, they do not. Due to the stigma and bias regarding mental illness, most people remain "silent heroes." This book explores the emotional journey and the healthy, although painful, emotional process that is necessary for families to "come to terms" with and find healing regarding the mental disorder of their loved one.
